Brief life: Abraham Lincoln was born on 12th February 1809 in a very poor family. Before became President of USA, Lincoln worked as a boatman, store clerk, surveyor, militia soldier, and became a lawyer in Illinois, USA.nnWhen he began to build a legal and political career, his path was marked by as many failures as successes. Largely self-educated, he became a lawyer in Illinois, a Whig Party leader, elected to the Illinois House of Representatives, in which he served for eight years.nnElected to the United States House of Representatives in 1846, Lincoln promoted rapid modernization of the economy and opposed the Mexican–American War.
When his term in office ended in March 1849, Lincoln returned to Illinois. His party had failed to elect its candidate to this seat that Lincoln was vacating. His supporter blamed him and his unpopular position on the Mexican- American War for the defeat. Lincoln fell into depression.nnAfter so many failures, in 1860, Lincoln elected as a president.
